As the Associate Accounting Director within our Accounting and Reporting area, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of 3-4 U.S-based employees and may also include dotted reporting relationships for limited Optum Global Solutions staff in India. You and your staff will primarily be responsible for the accounting and issue resolution of multiple Medicaid health plans. Responsibilities also include maintaining general ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and reports. You will review journal entries, account reconciliations, account classifications, and various financial analyses in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.. Primary Responsibilities:. Liaise with C&S Finance and health plan executive management, as needed. Collaborate with other functional areas within C&S Finance / C&S Controllership (e.g., FP&A, Revenue Team, Reserving, Financial Data Management, State Medicaid Reporting). Collaborate with other functional areas within the broader UHG organization (e.g., Legal, Corporate Accounting, Capital Planning, Regulatory Reporting, Regulatory FP&A), as necessary. Collaborate with external audit teams during peak audit season and quarterly reviews, and as needed throughout the year. Manage your team's monthly close process, including pre-close reporting and subsequent daily updates. Monitor balance sheet accounts for accuracy and completeness via the account reconciliation process. Monitor and proactively track risks and opportunities associated with assigned health plans, as needed. Provide appropriate financial statement and / or audit oversight for assigned health plans. Provide operational and technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with GAAP, Company policies, and various applicable rules and regulations. Support the statutory reporting process, providing related audit support and issue resolution as needed. Support the Company's strategic and operational planning initiatives, as applicable. Assist staff in driving known issues in assigned health plans to resolution. Monitor membership and reserving processes. Ad hoc and special project ownership. Required Qualifications:. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. 6+ years of progressive work experience in accounting. 2+ years management / supervisory experience. Solid technical knowledge of GAAP; ability to effectively use accounting knowledge to collaborate with varying levels of employees and senior management to drive sound business decisions. Demonstrates proficiency in the importance and application of financial internal control skills. Experience in the financial close process and general understanding of underlying complexities that sometimes exist. Ability to effectively summarize and articulate financial results. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet tight deadlines. Excellent PC experience in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other financial reporting tools. Advanced analytical and information gathering skills; ability to evaluate and prioritize extensive detailed data. Preferred Qualifications:. CPA / CMA or other equivalent licensure or certification. Healthcare industry experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. The salary/hourly range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $94,500 to $171,700.
