If you want to help transform communities and see families thrive, then People Serving People is the place for you.What do we need:The Bilingual Lead Preschool teacher runs the preschool classroom based on a philosophy of trauma informed principles and goals. The Bilingual Lead Preschool Teacher works with the Preschool Teacher, interns, and volunteers to provide a warm, loving, atmosphere, and support the development of children ages 3 and 5 years and their parents at People Serving People. Must be able to work and plan in a team setting, with patience, enthusiasm, and respect for children, as well as parents and fellow staff. Spanish Speaking Preferred.Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Preschool Teacher to meet the children's needs.
  • Understands the impact of stress and trauma on children in a shelter setting.
  • Understands and can implement and build on the trauma-informed framework of our classrooms.
  • Plans and facilitates curriculum for young children in a developmentally appropriate setting based heavily in social-emotional development.
  • Creates monthly and daily communications for parents such as daily reports and monthly newsletters.
  • Performs related administrative duties such as handing out and collecting all required paperwork from parents and keeping student files up to date.
  • Encourages and teaches pre-literacy skills, social skills, and development skills.
  • Works closely with Minneapolis Public Schools to refer children who might have special needs.
  • Continually updates curriculum to meet the needs of students.
  • Maintains appropriate program records.
  • Welcomes, talks with and meets with parents.
  • Maintains clean classroom appearance by organizing, cleaning, and sanitizing daily.
  • Administers basic first aid and cares for sick children.
  • Assists in other Early Childhood Development Program classrooms as necessary for ratio, including classrooms at the Center of Excellence.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Educational Services Assistant Manager or Educational Services Manager.Pay and Benefits:
    • $25.50/hourly
    • Full-Time, Monday through Friday, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

      • CDA, Associates in child development or early childhood education, or bachelor's in any field.
      • Preferred: BA or BS in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Child Development or related field.
      • Fluent in Spanish both written and verbal.
      • Completes first aid and Red Cross certified CPR training every 2 years.
      • Completes 24 hours of in-service training per year
      • Completes required trainings and documentation for Parent Aware rating.
      • Skill in working with children, their families, and the public.
      • Skill in evaluating situations, with the ability to determine the needs of children.
      • Ability to articulate program goals and philosophy and apply it to working in the Early Childhood Development Program.
      • Ability to teach developmental, social, and emotional skills.
      • Ability to establish a warm and supportive relationship with the children and their parents or guardians.
      • Ability to keep accurate records.
      • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care principles and models.
      • Knowledge of the developmental and emotional needs of young children.
      • Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in a child development center.
