The VP, Molecular Diagnostics Quality Assessments role be a key contributor on the Optum Genomics team and will support the definition, implementation, and oversight of a technical assessment capability for molecular diagnostics tests. - In addition, this role will support various United Health Group teams, including investments, policy, payer products, test manufacturers, and research partnerships. This role requires a solid understanding of test design and validation principles, a thorough understanding of the history of oversight efforts in molecular diagnostic test quality, and the ability to work with stakeholders across the industry. This person must convince leaders and operators of his / her value, earn their trust and time, and work collaboratively to build actionable strategies.

Primary Responsibilities:
Support test developer clients Provide expertise in client-facing discussions regarding Analytical Validity (AV), Clinical Validity (CV), and Clinical Utility (CU) of molecular diagnostic tests
Analytical and clinical validity reviews and gap assessments
Work with internal researchers and data scientists to design and execute studies to fill evidence gaps for new tests
Accompany clients to meet with payers, professional societies, and key opinion leaders

Work with internal medical leadership and statisticians to develop position statements, dossiers, and templates for standardized evidence expectations
Socialize and harmonize with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, professional societies, payers, providers, and patient advocacy organizations
Lead and support cross-UHG initiatives spanning growth strategy, operational excellence and client / external party partnerships by directly scoping, initiating, documenting business requirement for the creation of a quality assessment product for laboratory developed tests (LDTs) Establish criteria for assessing analytical validity and clinical validity for molecular tests
Socialize and harmonize with key stakeholders across the industry
Develop and maintain a database of the clinical validity of commonly ordered biomarkers
Onboards and manages the team executing quality assessment reviews
Draft communications strategies for various forums

Support a go to market approach and pipeline for quality assessments Defining operating model / process to review, provide feedback and/or validate
Forecast volume of assessments coming in and associated staffing needs to support
Establishes a scalable format that can be leveraged by other products / businesses needing LDT quality assessment data

Provide consulting / advisory services for test developers, investors, payers, and other internal and external stakeholders Evidence and medical diligence assessments
Test design support and intended use optimization

Provide consulting / advisory services for Optum Care Delivery Organizations (CDOs) Case review of molecular diagnostics utilization management - (UM) test requests, including recommendation based on medical necessity for clinical scenarios and coverage determinations
Support product team for defining business rules for Prior Authorization /Utilization Management /Payment Integrity capabilities

Support R&D to design and execute clinical evidence studies
Partners with the Product team(s) to commercialize new genomics capabilities across businesses, in Client Support and Business Development

Required Qualifications:
PhD-FACMG or MD molecular pathologist with 10+ years clinical experience
3+ years of experience working with regulatory and professional societies on quality of laboratory developed tests
Experience with coding, coverage, and reimbursement of molecular diagnostics
Experience with the regulation of laboratory developed tests, including FDA, CLIA, and deemed entities
Experience using test design principles

Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years experience with the validation and interpretation of next generation sequencing based tests
Familiarity with and/or experience with ClinGen resources
Proven organizational skills with ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects with tight deadlines
Exceptional ability to drive results through strong collaborating and influencing skills across all business segments and geographies

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is -$130,300 to $250,200. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
