Job Description:
The Value Stream Manager (VSM) is responsible for achieving
objectives in manufacturing safety, quality, delivery, and budget.
This position is critical to the business and our customers and
works in close partnership with the Quality, Sourcing, Planning,
Sustaining Engineering, and Human Resources teams. Success will be
achieved by driving alignment throughout the supply chain, working
with cross-functional groups as "one team" to resolve issues
permanently, and exceeding customer expectations. As a member of
the Quality and Operations leadership team, the VSM will drive
Operational Excellence and execution by promoting a continuous
improvement culture, inspiring employee engagement, and motivating,
supporting, and developing teams to achieve business goals.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for providing leadership to all Manufacturing
functions: Receiving, Receiving Inspection, Materials Handling,
Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Warehouse, and
Distribution
- Establish goals, set priorities, and coordinate all related
activities within the Value Stream to ensure focused execution
toward meeting or exceeding business objectives.
- Oversee and manage Value Stream expenses to meet budgets and
financial objectives.
- Lead with a continuous improvement mindset and proactively seek
opportunities to drive improvement in operating results.
- Use Lean Principles to develop a culture based on waste
elimination, labor efficiency, and visual management.
- Partner with the Quality leader to utilize defect prevention
and permanent corrective tools including Six Sigma and Design for
Manufacturability, along with metric-based performance
management.
- Partner with Facilities leader to identify potential safety
hazards and implement corrective action (Gemba walks)
- Use formal project management tools including A3's and Gantt
charts to communicate status, track execution, and promote employee
accountability.
- Implement forward thinking business improvements like
standardized work, longer planning horizons, risk mitigation based
cross-training, and picture processes that support employee
training and understanding.
- Instill, promote, and drive a "we win together culture" where
employees are listened to, supported, and encouraged to participate
in cross-functional Kaizen improvement teams. Serve as a model for
promoting safety, quality, supply continuity, and fiscal
responsibility.
- Contribute to new product development initiatives while driving
engineering process improvements, such as equipment tooling and
fixtures, that improve efficiency and reduce cost.
- Provide "hands on", transformative leadership by teaching and
mentoring employees on progressive Operational Excellence
methodologies.
- Work with Production Planning to communicate requirements
understanding and capacity planning. Ensure that weekly SKU level
manufacturing attainment goals are met. Ensure supply chain
continuity by proactively mitigating risk.
- Maintain GMP and ISO 13485 compliance throughout the supply
chain.
- Partner with the Operational Excellence, Sustaining
Engineering, and R&D teams to ideate and implement
manufacturing efficiency improvements. Deliver year-over-year
reduction in the cost of manufacturing goods.
- Together with Human Resources, develop change management
strategies to improve communication, facilitate business
understanding, drive metric-based performance understanding, and
infuse accountability throughout the organization.
- Communicate re-train, and ensure all personnel understand and
follow all company policies, required procedures, and standard
safety, quality, and production practices. Assign auditing teams to
verify compliance with training, GMP, and inventory control
policies.
- Establish goals and objectives that set performance
expectations. Provide coaching and recognition to motivate employee
achievement.
Required Skills and Experience:
- B.S. degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a
related field
- Minimum of 8 years Manufacturing, Quality, and/or Process
Development Engineering experience
- 10+ years of Manufacturing experience with 4 years or more in a
supervisory role
- Medical Device experience or similarly highly regulated
field
- Proven leadership
- Quality minded
- Results driven person, able to operate in a fast-paced
environment.
- Lean methodology driven.
- Highly organized, can continue to drive projects while leading
team.
