Job Description:

The UHG and UHG Corporate Groups Compensation Director will lead all compensation related strategies and activities in support of the Market Group and Segment goals including:

  • Provide a full spectrum of consulting and analytical compensation services by translating business and segment strategic direction into meaningful compensation programs
  • Apply best practice compensation principles to provide customized, enterprise-aligned compensation solutions designed to support business, team and leadership strategies
  • Proactively complete needs analysis, problem identification, and recommendations, influencing decision-making at all levels within the organization
  • Partner with executive leaders and the human capital team to develop appropriate compensation strategies, policies, programs, and communications
  • Represent the business segments in the design, development, and implementation of UnitedHealth Group shared services initiatives and conversely represent shared services in business initiatives.
  • Participate directly on enterprise-wide compensation projects including policy and program development and automated solutions
  • Indirectly manage compensation resources through a matrix relationship to deliver design, analysis, implementation and on-going administration of compensation programs
  • Effectively communicate with peers, Human Capital Partners and Leaders by proactively sharing information, analysis and solutions, as appropriate

  • As a Director on our Enterprise Compensation team, the individual should be able to provide enterprise insight with the ability to adapt to the changing business needs, as appropriate. While many Compensation practitioners may like to operate in black and white, for the groups this role supports the individual must be adept at organizational agility and working in many shades of grey
  • Individuals in this role should demonstrate resiliency and resourcefulness in delivering to Human Capital and Sr. Leaders. Ability to partner with others on the team to leverage resources to deliver the end results to the business

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Finance or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of Human Capital experience (emphasis in Compensation)
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with multiple constituents and managing in a matrix relationship environment
  • Proven experience strengthening and delivering on a Compensation agenda to drive positive change in a high-performance setting
  • Deep understanding of and practical experience in applied compensation principles, methods and tools including functional and technical expertise in the following areas: market analysis, compensation program design, development, and implementation, variable pay (including sales), salary planning/forecasting, acquisitions, and alternative reward design techniques
  • Experience demonstrating business and financial acumen
  • Proven leadership consulting skills from assessment through implementation
  • Demonstrated experience in measuring and evaluating effectiveness of compensation initiatives
  • Experience of quickly building relationships, gaining credibility, influencing and partnering with business leaders and human capital peers across the organization
  • Experience demonstrating successful change management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • 3+ years of experience managing teams either as direct reports or in a matrix environment
  • Experience building trusted relationships and working directly with Senior Leadership of a large complex organization
  • Demonstrated management and project management experience
  • Experience working in a human resources or business function with a strategic business partner and shared service delivery model

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $110,200 to $211,700.
