Basic Job Description
The Instrumentation and Automation Technician installs, maintains,
and repairs sensors and automation components of all types
including robotic components, troubleshoots automation problems
using PLC logic techniques, and will be involved in other
mechanical and electrical repairs pertaining to the person's
knowledge and abilities in those subjects. Being a licensed
electrician in the state of Minnesota is a plus, but not a
requirement.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities)
These duties and responsibilities are not exhaustive and will be
supplemented as necessary.
- Observes all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies
and procedures, including participation in EHS meetings,
investigations, and audits.
- Assists and leads maintenance and engineering teams with
Troubleshooting of complex PLC (Programmable Logic Control)
systems.
- Installs, calibrates and repairs sensors and feedback equipment
(photoeyes, encoders, various temperature, pH, conductivity,
explosive environment, pressure and flow measurement devices).
- Program and setup motor control devices including variable
frequency drives.
- Install, calibrate and repair mechanical control devices such
as valve actuators.
- Assists and leads maintenance and engineering teams with
troubleshooting and repair of robotic systems and automated
packaging machines.
- Evaluates processes such as applicable preventative maintenance
and job plans and makes recommendations for improvements.
- Be an active team player and contributor, share knowledge,
absorb knowledge from others including constructive feedback.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal customers and
manufacturing teams.
- Other duties as assigned including occasional on-call duty.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Vocational certification in robotics, automation, electrical
systems, or related.
- Completion of apprenticeship or internship performing some or
all of the Essential Functions above.
Desired
- At least 2 years of experience performing Essential Functions
above in a factory/industrial setting.
- Experience and knowledge with all facets of automated
manufacturing (PLC, complex mechanical, electronics, robotics,
pneumatic, and hydraulic) equipment. ProLogix experience
preferred.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, and
CMMS (preferably Maximo) experience.
