Salary range is $160,155 to $179,867

Reports To: Assistant SuperintendentSUMMARY OF
RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the direction of the Assistant
Superintendent, the Senior Director of Teaching and Learning
provides leadership in the Division of Instructional Excellence and
Student Experience, specifically oversight responsibilities for the
Department of Teaching and Learning. Duties include planning and
directing the development and implementation of educational
services and experiences for all students; developing and
implementing curriculum, ensuring horizontal fidelity and vertical
alignment; and ensuring instructional excellence throughout the
district. This Senior Director will have expertise in curriculum,
instruction, assessment, professional development, systems
thinking, strategic plan alignment, continuous improvement, adult
learning theory, and project management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees the development and implementation of staff
development and professional learning activities.
- Develops and oversees the curriculum review process, including
the alignment with the strategic plan, integration of excellent
student experience, and program evaluation.
- Creates and delivers communications, presentations and reports
concerning vision, goals, and progress to a variety of stakeholders
including department staff, school leaders, teachers, unions,
parents, students, school board, and community.
- Serves as the liaison to the School Board for curriculum,
instruction, and assessment through the Assistant Superintendent
and Superintendent.
- Provides leadership to implement standards, grading, staff
development, and differentiated instructional strategies supporting
the strategic plan.
- Provides leadership for excellence in innovation of
instructional practices.
- Coordinates with Student Services to provide aligned, modified
curriculum, instruction, and assessment experiences for students
across the MTSS spectrum.
- Coordinates with technology to ensure excellence in
instructional technology support and innovation.
- Leads, supports, and monitors an assessment system that is
useful to staff and administration, is aligned with strategic plan
objectives, and emphasizes the relationship between excellent
instruction and student experience.
- Develops and manages various budgets related to curriculum,
professional development, federal programs, and capital items in
support of student achievement and experience.
- Supervises personnel performance of departments assigned to the
Division.
- Coordinates staff assignments and workloads, and project
manages initiatives and related programming.
- Ensures strong clarity, communication, and engagement with
building principals on matters related to the Division and
personnel of the Division.
- Plans and provides staff development on using and interpreting
student assessment data.
- Works with District instructional staff and administrators on
using data results to aid in continuous improvement efforts.
- Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, and District
and departmental meetings.
- Responds and implements state and federal legislation affecting
educational programs.
- Develops and maintains a calendar of Division and Departmental
activities.
- Works to develop both personally and professionally in the area
of racial equity.
- Ensures state and federal reporting is completed accurately and
on time.
- Creates systems and processes to support Division and
Department teams in daily management of projects, monitoring,
progress reporting, and adjustments.
- Meets regularly with direct reports to discuss priorities,
critical concerns, technical issues, and continuous
improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal mandates, rules, and
requirements pertaining to student assessment and achievement.
- Knowledge of research and statistical qualitative and
quantitative procedures, methods, tools, and principles.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of instructional design,
development, and learning theories.
- Knowledge of and experience with school building systems pre k
through 22, to include special programming.
- Designing and laying out documents and reports.
- Planning for, coordinating, and leading adult learning and
building leaders.
- Knowledge of innovative and excellence instructional
practices.
- Interpreting, training, and advising instructional staff,
administrators, Board, and the public concerning instruction,
assessment, and student experience.
- Making presentations and communicating complex concepts and
results in a concise and understandable manner.
- Knowledge of and experience with continuous improvement.
- Time management and organizational skills.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Sitting and Desk Work: Much of the role involves office-based
tasks such as writing reports, reviewing data, and conducting
meetings. Prolonged sitting is often required during computer work,
meetings, and presentations.
- Travel: The role may involve travel to schools, conferences,
and meetings. This can require the ability to drive or fly, and
possibly navigate through different buildings or locations.
- Standing and Walking: The position may require standing or
walking during presentations, conferences, or attending meetings,
sometimes for extended periods.
- Lifting and Carrying: While this is not typically a
heavy-demand position, carrying materials such as presentation
equipment, documents, or promotional materials may be required
occasionally. This could involve lifting items up to 25
pounds.
- Visual and Auditory: The ability to focus on reports,
documents, and screens for long periods is required. It also
demands strong auditory skills for listening and participating in
meetings, phone calls, and discussions.
- Typing and Writing: The role may require the constant use of a
computer to write reports, send emails, or prepare documents.
Writing tasks might also be performed during meetings or while
preparing presentations.
- Mental Focus: The role requires high levels of mental focus,
particularly for analyzing data, evaluating assessments, and
developing strategies. It also demands problem-solving and
decision-making capabilities, often in high-pressure
situations.
- Communication: Effective verbal communication skills are
necessary for presenting information to various stakeholders,
engaging with teams, and leading discussions.WORK ENVIIRONMENT

conferences, and site visits.

- Professional: A balance of autonomy and responsibility, often
interacting with upper-level leadership.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Specialist, M.A., or M.S. degree in Education or related
field
- Minnesota Teaching License and Administrator License
required
- Minimum of five (5) years building level experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience.
- District level experience preferred.
